In December 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) hosted an online consultation on the methodology of imPACT Reviews, which assess a country’s cancer control capacities and needs and identify priority interventions to effectively respond to its cancer burden. The consultation was also attended by representatives from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
The objectives of this partners meeting were to examine the imPACT Review methodology, to identify priority countries for action in 2021, and to formulate new joint strategies and initiatives to enhance and accelerate the support provided by IAEA, IARC, and WHO for government cancer control actions.
This convening opportunity is also the only organized event for the three primary United Nations agencies working in cancer control to strategize more broadly and to collectively engage non-state actors. This annual consultation offers an opportunity to set the cancer agenda within the United Nations system and more broadly among multisectoral stakeholders that support governments globally.
